The Division of Settlements and Labour, Tobago House of Assembly, is seeking suitably qualified persons to fill the following position (on contract).
CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER
Job Summary
The incumbent in this position will be expected to perform a wide range of duties in connection with the design, construction and maintenance of civil engineering projects in the housing development programme of the Division of Settlements and Labour. Duties will be performed under the direction and supervision of the Director of Settlements. Work will be reviewed through inspections, discussions, reports and general bservations.
Examples of Work
- Analyses reports from consultants regarding soil and materials testing.
- Monitoring work done by consultants in the construction of roads, bridges, drains, culverts, wastewater treatment plants and other engineering works at the Division’s housing development projects.
- Monitoring housing construction.
- Developing proposals, engineering plans and designs submitted by consultants.
- Making recommendations for modification of plans and designs submitted by consultants.
- Visiting engineering projects in progress to determine that work is progressing according to the designs and prescribed standards.
- Managing a maintenance team.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of modern methods, techniques and materials employed in the design, construction and maintenance of civil engineering works.
- Skill in the use and care of standard engineering instruments.
- Ability to read survey plans.
- Ability to plan and design or to assist in the planning and designing of civil engineering projects, including the preparation of site plans and working drawings or plans.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and other employees.
Basic Experience and Training
Training as evidenced by a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent qualifications in civil or structural engineering from a recognized University, Technical College or Institute.
