EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The South-West Regional Health Authority is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the following positions:

PLANT OPERATOR

The Plant Operator provides routine electronic/mechanical work in the operations and maintenance of health facilities' plants and equipment such as boilers, air conditioning compressors, pumps, generators and elevators. The health institutions operate on a 24 hour basis, and accordingly this person may be required to work on shift or "on call" arrangements. The job may involve considerable travelling and fieldwork throughout the region.

The incumbent responds and takes appropriate action in response to all alarm signals (audio or visual) and upkeeps and maintains operation records of medical gases. He/she also consults with and obtains directions from the Senior Plant Operator to plan and execute jobs related to the requirements of the Region.

REQUIREMENTS AND TRAINING:

  • Successful completion of a relevant Craftsman Certificate from an accredited technical institution.
  • Two (2) years' experience as a Technical Operator in a facility.
  • Possession of a valid driver's licence.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, guidelines, codes and standards pertaining to operation, maintenance and repair to mechanical engineering installations and equipment in health institutions.
  • Knowledge of local and international mechanical engineering codes.
  • Knowledge of local and international safety codes and practices pertaining to health institutions.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and project applications.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and instructions.
  • Ability to use measuring instruments in addition to hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to work in elevated locations.
