The National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO) is a Special Purpose State Enterprise, which was established by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to manage the delivery of assigned infrastructure projects in the drainage and flood control, reclamation, highway and transportation sectors. NIDCO is expanding its team of professionals and is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals to work in the following positions:

QUANTITY SURVEYOR
The quantity surveyor manages all costs relating to all NIDCO projects. From the initial calculations to the final figures, the surveyor will seek to minimize the costs of a project and enhance value for money, whilst still achieving the required standards and quality.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage costs on a wide variety of projects, such as roads and bridges.
  • Undertake costs analysis for repair and maintenance project work;
  • Assist in establishing a client’s requirements and undertaking leasibility studies;
  • Prepare early stage budgets and detailed cost plans;
  • Perform risk and value management and cost-control;
  • Advising on procurement strategy;
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities;
  • Identify, analyze and develop responses to commercial risks;
  • Prepare and analyze costing for tenders;
  • Establishing and operating cost and financial control systems;
  • Allocate work to subcontractors;
  • Negotiate to ensure budgets are not exceeded;
  • Providing advice on contractual claims;
  • Analyze outcomes and writing detailed progress reports;
  • Value completed work and arranging payments;
  • Develop knowledge relevant to contract conditions and their applications;
  • Understand the implications of health and safety regulations,
  • Provide advice on contractual claims.

Education, Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree and Post Graduate qualifications in surveying, construction, civil engineering, structural engineering or a related field.
  • Ten (10) years experience in Surveying/Engineering and/or Construction fields. Extensive experience in large infrastructural and or transportation Projects will be an asset.
  • Or any equivalent combination of qualifications training and experience.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Good mathematical skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both in speech and writing
  • Exceptionally logical, with a methodical approach
  • Possess strong negotiating skills
  • Interested in business, finance and construction.
