VACANCY
Applications are invited from suitably qualified nationals of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to fill, on contract, the following positions in the Customs and Excise Division, Ministry of Finance for a period of two (2) years.

TWO (2) SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIANS
Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support in the development and maintenance of the Division’s intranet and internet services and network data-bases

  • Provide day-to-day hardware, software and local area and wide area network support.
  • Provide support for help desk services, e-mail systems, web server and other intranet and internet resources.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade computing related hardware and perform the installation, upgrade and end user support of software
  • Ensure that all PC’s, servers and network vendor support as well as all computing equipment are adequately maintained and that preventive maintenance for hardware is scheduled and executed satisfactorily.
  • Train end users on work procedures, processes and the use of software and hardware products.
  • Support new technologies being envisaged by the Division.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and work independently on more complex/sensitive projects, as required.
  • Prepare written reports, projects plans and recommendations as requested.
  • Assist in implementation and maintenance of corporate anti-virus strategies, computer inventory, backup systems and disaster recovery plan.

Required Knowledge, Training and Experience

  • Training as evidenced by technical certification in A+ and/or Network +and a Diploma in Computer Science with at least three years experience in a related field.

  • MCSE certification and knowledge of the UNIX operating systems and hardware will be an asset.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office suite.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and upgrade Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP PCs, SQL Server 2000/2003, peripherals, network connectivity and network databases.
  • Considerable knowledge of computers, computer operating systems, as well as, computer principles and protocols
  • Knowledge of Help Desk Technology.
  • Knowledge of web design and development.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

TERMS AND CONTDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary, allowances and other terms and conditions of employment are to be negotiated with the Chief Personnel Officer, Personnel Department.
