VACANT POST OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS OFFICER

Applications are invited for the post of Industrial Relations Officer. This officer will be attached to the Industrial Relations Department under the direct supervision of the Second Vice President.

JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent will be required to:

  • prepare drafts of Collective Agreement proposals to be submitted to the employer.
  • research, collect and compile reliable data
  • represent the Association at meetings with Government agencies, Public Service officials, officials of other Trade Unions and other stakeholders
  • attend to the grievances of members of the Association
  • correspond with teachers vis-à-vis progress of their personal grievances
  • perform duties as Secretary to the Industrial Relations Committee
  • assist with membership education pertaining to Industrial Relations issues
  • liaise with the Association’s legal advisers
  • perform other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Required knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Sound knowledge of the principles and practices of Personnel Management and Industrial Relations.
  • Sound knowledge of the organization and functioning of the Public Service with specific reference to the Teaching Service.
  • Sound knowledge of the labour laws, Teaching Service regulations and education policies of Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Sound knowledge of Compensation Management.
  • Expert negotiating skills with emphasis on Job Evaluation.
  • Sound communication skills.
  • Sound interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Ability to analyse situations, prepare reports and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Sound Information Technology skills.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A recognized University Degree or Diploma in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations.
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience in grievance handling and conflict resolution.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered.
