The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the leading United Nations agency for information and communication technologies, wishes to employ a Project Assistant for its project on Enhancing competitiveness in the Caribbean through the harmonization of ICT Policies, Legislation and Regulation Procedures (HIPCAR). The position is at the G4 level, with a yearly salary of TT$ 100,660 to TT$ 139,100. Entry on duty is as soon as possible.
The appointment will be for one year, with possibility of extension up to the duration of the project (3 years). The duty station is Trinidad & Tobago, at the offices of the Caribbean Telecommunication Union (CTU) in Port of Spain.
Summary of duties & responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Project Assistant will carry out the following tasks:
1. Provide general administrative and secretarial support to the project team (including short-term experts)
2. Maintain updated lists of names and coordinates of officials and organizations associated with the project
3. Liaise with all countries hosting project workshops to ensure that all necessary information has been gathered before the dissemination of invitation letters
4. Assist in the organization and follow-up of workshops, meetings and seminars
5. Liaise with the ITU Regional Office for all issues referring to the official relationship between the project and ITU Member Countries
6. Prepare and disseminate all forms and requests required for the recruitment of project experts
7. Verify data collected in participating countries to ensure completeness and readiness for use
8. Provide support in the preparation and dissemination of training materials generated by the project
9. Assist the Project Coordinator and experts in the preparation of reports
10. Post documents and any relevant information on the project website
11. Maintain and disseminate all documents allowing to follow-up the progress of the project
12. Any other duties that may be assigned by the Project Coordinator.
Required qualifications & competencies
1. Complete secondary education OR equivalent technical or commercial studies
2. At least 3 years of experience in the field of the work, of which 1 year experience in a project
3. Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of French and Spanish
4. Experience in the use of computer equipment and software for word processing, PowerPoint presentations and Front Page; knowledge of other IT applications would be an asset
5. Ability to work independently and under pressure and to maintain good working relations with officials at all levels.
